Keynote Speaker: Eric K. Barnhart, Special Agent in Charge of the Salt Lake City Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
The Changing and Interactive Nature of Security and Emergency Response

Mr. Barnhart entered on duty with the FBI as a Special Agent on April 28, 1996 and was assigned to the Portland Division’s Organized Crime/Drug Squad. His career has spanned both national and international units of the FBI. He was selected as the Special Assistant to Director Mueller in June 2013 and continued as Special Assistant to Director Comey where he provided counsel on policy and administrative matters to the Director. In June 2015 he was appointed Special Agent in Charge of the Salt Lake City Division. Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Barnhart served for five years as an Artillery Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
As stewards of public health and the environment, water professionals have always been aware of the risks associated with securing reservoirs and wells to protect the water supply — to guarding materials at their facilities from theft and sabotage, to planning for response and recovery from events ranging from routine pipe breaks to natural disasters.
Special Agent Barnhart will discuss the threats we face in this New World which now include the risks of intentional harm through malevolent acts. He will address the changing and interactive nature of security and emergency preparedness and provide insight on the key drivers that influence the water sector’s activities regarding cybersecurity, physical security and emergency response.
