There are three separate sessions. You are encouraged to sign up for all three, but have the option to pick only one or two.

Day 1: April 26th  10 am-12 pm MOUNTAIN TIME, 9 am-11 am PACIFIC TIME - Regulatory Review

Overview:

This workshop provides an overview of the updated regulatory rules for distribution systems. Topics covered in the workshop include history of public health protection, distribution system health impacts, revised total coliform rule, ground water rule, stage 2 DBP rule, and Lead and copper rule

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this lesson, participants should have the ability to:

  • Describe the importance of the distribution system as a barrier for protecting public health
  • Identify distribution regulations and requirements for drinking water

Day 2: April 27th 10 am-12 pm MOUNTAIN TIME, 9 am-11 am PACIFIC TIME - Distribution System Infrastrucure & Water Quality

Overview:

  • Covers problems with common Distribution System components (piping, valves, storage tanks, and hydrants), and how they can drastically affect water quality, and as a result, public health
  • Provides preventive actions and solutions to common problems

Learning Objectives:

At the completion of this lesson, participants should have the ability to:

  • Describe vital components of a distribution system, and how they can impact water quality

  • Identify potential areas of water quality concern in your system, and consider ways to improve them

Day 3: April 28th 10 am-12 pm MOUNTAIN TIME, 9 am-11 am PACIFIC TIME - Disinfection Overview: Disinfection Byproducts

Overview:

This lesson discusses the different types of disinfection methods available, but is focused on disinfection by free chlorine and combined chlorine (chloramine) only. Topics include types of disinfection, chlorination, chloramination, and nitrification.

Learning Objectives:

 At the completion of this lesson, participants should have the ability to:

  • Describe the importance of disinfection

  • List the types of disinfectants

  • Summarize disinfection basics (chlorination and chloramination)

  • Evaluate disinfection dosing and monitoring
