Flaming Gorge Dam Facts:

·      “Flaming Gorge” was named by John Wesley Powell and his crew during their May 27, 1869 expedition.

·      Construction of the dam began in June 1958 and was completed in 1963 when President John F. Kennedy fired up the first dam generator.

·      The dam produces 500 million kilowatt hours of energy each year, distributing power to Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nebraska, and Nevada.

·      The reservoir holds 3.8 million acre-feet of water.
