FLUORIDE SAFETY TRAINING
Required Training for all Water System Operators in Salt Lake and Davis Counties.  Earn 0.6 CEUs by attending.  Price includes Lunch and break snacks.

Chemical Handling Safety
This One-Day Fluoride Safety Training will help water operators anticipate, recognize, evaluate, prevent, and control the factors in the workplace that might cause harm to themselves and/or others from fluoride chemicals.

Sodium fluoride readily dissolves in water and is often added to drinking water supplies and to a variety of dental products, including toothpastes and mouth rinses to prevent dental cavities. Other fluoride compounds that are commonly used for water fluoridation are fluorosilic acid and sodium fluorosilicate.

Sodium fluoride, hydrogen fluoride, and fluorine have been named hazardous substances by the EPA. As such fluoride chemicals need to be handled appropriately and be stored in a safe environment.

Designing for Safety
Water Operators will be prepared to meet State requirements and local ordinances. Requirements include the submission of reports by city and district water systems adding fluoride to the water supplies, the taking of distribution samples for fluoride analysis and periodic sanitary surveys of equipment and operations. Operators will also be instructed on the proper design and installation of fluoridation equipment.
