The Intermountain Section of the American Water Works Association, along with our Water Week Partners, are happy to once again provide libraries throughout Utah and Idaho with materials to help celebrate Water Week. We are also looking for volunteers to coordinate with their local libraries to set up a display, read during story hour, and other activities that show the importance of water as well as conduct small water related experiments we provide.

The Intermountain Section AWWA is looking for volunteers to coordinate with their local libraries to set up a display, read during story hour, and other activities that show the importance of water.
Each volunteer will receive a kit of materials in early January consisting of books and materials for a display:
11”x 17” Water Week poster
An Adult Book
A Children’s Book
Water Week Bookmarks
Activities Packet
Water Week Book Lists for adults and kids
Three tri-fold brochures (about 50 of each)
“Water Fun For You” Coloring Books (30)
At this time we ask that you visit or contact your library to introduce yourself to the library contact and deliver Water Week Library Bag. Spend some time discussing Water Week and this year’s theme of “Water Conservation: It begins with you!” Inquire about what the library will allow or is able to accommodate. Some libraries don’t have story time and will only require set up of a small Water Week display. Put a plan together with the librarian on what will be done during Water Week.
Your library plan may include setting up a small display in the library (if permitted) using items provided. Libraries might have other books donated during previous years that can also be used in display. Feel free to add more to the display if you would like, showing the importance of water and conservation.
You may also want to read for story time during Water Week. Arrange a time or times you can visit the library and read the children’s book included in the kit. Hand out coloring books. You may consider doing an activity outlined in the kit or another activity. Have fun and be creative in teaching the importance of water.
After Water Week visit library to take down the display and follow up with library contact. Find out what worked and what could be improved on for next year. Thank the library for participating in this year’s program.
Training will be provided to all volunteers through web conferences. Please consider volunteering!
