Director’s Report, Scott W. Paxman, P.E.
Weber Basin Water Conservancy District
August 2015
The AWWA has really been trying hard to kick off the new initiative “AWWA Community Engineering Corps”(CE Corps). The CE Corps has joined the alliance with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Engineers without Borders USA (EWB-USA). Members of the three organization can volunteer their time and expertise to assist underserved communities that do not have the resources to access engineering services, within the United States, to advance local infrastructure solutions. This involves more of the project planning and design than it does construction. In fact, once the planning and possibly design is completed the CE Corps will assist the community in finding available funding to complete their projects.
Volunteers with a wide range of experience and expertise will be recruited to work on project teams, serve on program committees and provide mentorships to university student project teams. Volunteers could be engineers, scientists, system operators, or from other backgrounds.
Please look for further information on this program and watch for your chance to help out. If you know of a community that may need help, please contact someone on the Intermountain Board.
