Serving as the Chair of the Intermountain Section over the past year has been a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to get to know more of our members, and work with our committees and staff on the many training sessions and programs the Section has provided.  It has been a busy year.  Four new initiatives were identified and established as programs that meet our mission and are relevant and effective for our membership:  Scholarship fund-raising, building a relationship with Utah League of Cities and Towns, building a closer relationship with the Division of Drinking Water, and creating a Supervisory Leadership Program.  We also held workshops and conducted a pilot study on the AWWA Water Loss Audit Program.

On a sad note, our dear friend, Rick Wheadon, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer.  Rick was a strong supporter and tireless champion of AWWA and our Section.  He served in many positions, as Chair, Section Director, Board Member, and in many other capacities on various committees.  Through his work in AWWA and the water industry, he was awarded the George Warren Fuller Award and the Charlie Wilson Award.  Rick was a dedicated leader, a mentor, and a caring and wonderful person.  He will be missed by so many, but his legacy of dedication, professionalism, commitment, and kindness will live on in the great work he accomplished and the people’s lives he touched.

I appreciate the opportunity to have served as the Section Chair and extend my appreciation to our members, our Board, and our staff, for your hard work and dedication to our Section, AWWA, and the water industry.
